Shelton State Community College is an open admission institution. All students who have earned a high school diploma or GED are eligible for admission. Any applicant without a high school diploma or GED is encouraged to contact the Adult Education Department by emailing GED@sheltonstate.edu. First Time Freshman

A student who has not previously attended any college after high school graduation or obtaining of a GED is considered a first-time freshman.

Dual enrollment students will be considered first-time freshmen after graduation from high school and must submit a first-time freshman application.

Transfer Student

A student who has attended another college or university prior to enrolling at Shelton State is considered a transfer student.

Transient Student

A student enrolled at one college but taking classes at another that will count towards their degree at their home college is a transient student.

Note: Transient students are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Re-Admitted Student

A former Shelton State student who has not attended the College within one calendar year is considered re-admitted. The former student will be required to submit a new application for admission.

Dual Enrollment Student

Dual enrollment students receive college credit with Shelton State as well as with their current high school.

Accelerated High School Student

A student who earns college credit while still in high school is considered an accelerated high school student.

Note: Student must have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA, be enrolled in 11th or 12th grade, and meet all prerequisite requirements listed in the SSCC College Catalog. Students must submit appropriate ACT/SAT scores or complete placement testing.
